How do these two types work during a surge , A9L16618 Surge arrester and the A9L16300 Surge arrester
Both SPDs share the same operating principle. The SPD is placed in parallel to all other branches in the circuit so that when a temporary failure (overvoltage, lightning) occurs, the SPD is the easiest path for this failure (refer to page 11 in the attached document SPDs(1).pdf). The role of the surge arrester is to drive the lightning current to the earth in a very short time (<350 microseconds). The device with remote transfer (P/N A9L16300) will indicate the End-of-Life of the cartridge inside as soon as its burnt while the device that has no indication (P/N A9L16618) will just stop working.
